Girls Day Out.....or How to Recover From Snow Induced Cabin Fever

Today, Julie and I got out to do some estate sale and antique mall shopping.  After the holidays and a horrendous snow storm that trapped me in my house for five days, we were ready to get out and have some fun.

We began our day with a Vanilla Latte and a Caramel Macchiato from Starbucks.  Gotta have our coffees!

Our first stop of the day was an estate sale in Portland.  This was the last day of a huge sale, which meant everything was 1/2 off.  Here's some of the goodies that I found.......

The mini mannequin will get a new cottage style paint job.  The glass salt & pepper shakers will be filled with glitter and the cheese grater will find a home on my dad's pot rack.  My favorite finds of the day were the vintage mini rick rack and some victorian reproduction cards from the late 70's.  These will be fun to use in my paper crafts.

We also found some fun vintage beaded rings.  There was a basket filled with them. I remember my mom having one of these when I was  a kid in the 70's.  They are made from plastic beads and sit up high on your finger.  They made me chuckle, will all of their wild colors......I wish I gotten a picture of all of them.  These were a hoot!
I told Julie, we have to get one of them.......so she picked an orange one to match her pretty wool coat and I picked a red and white one.  It'll be my junkin' ring.

Julie had told me about about an antique store in Portland, called Monticello Antiques.  She has been there a number of times, but I've never been there.  It was fun to walk through and look at all of the treasures on display.

We ate lunch at the little cafe located at the store, called Montis.  Julie had a ham & cheese pannini and I had their chicken curry pannini.  They tasted good and were welcomed by our grumbling tummies......We were hungry shoppers!

We also met Sue from Bella Shabby.  I have visited her blog several times, so it was nice to meet her in person.  She was very nice and had a pretty cottage style spot at the shop.

While shopping, I found some cute vintage initial appliques.....one C for Christa and one J for Julie.  I'm not sure what I'll use them on yet........I was thinking about incorporating them into name tags for our spring show or perhaps putting them on a change purse for each of us.  I also found some german glass glitter in silver and pink......  Last, but not least, as I was checking out I saw a pail of yard sticks that had Monticello Antiques on them.  They were only a $1, so I thought I would get one to hang up in my craft room......an inexpensive way to remember a fun day!

Have a Wonderful New Year!

Christa and Julie, how funny that we were at the same estate sale, wasn't that just crazy? And, I don't know if you know this, but my friend Lisa and I have a booth at Monticello, called Tickled Pink! I hope we will meet, one day!
