Just What i Was Looking For.........

This past Saturday, my hubby watched the boys while I went to a couple of estate sales.....

I found an old typewriter.  Julie had seen it at this sale and told me about it.  Another lady had picked it up to purchase it, but her husband said no, so she offered it to me.  I couldn't resist.  It was 1/2 off day, so it was only $10.  It has it's own carrying case and is in very good condition.  I've been wanting one of these ever since I saw an article in Somerset Life magazine featuring some altered artwork from Rebecca Sower.  It looked like she had taken aged muslin and typed on it using an old machine.  This is just what I was looking for!  I can't wait to try it, but I wonder about ribbon refills for these vintage machines.....can you even find one for them anymore or perhaps, re-ink it?   Hmmmm......I suppose I 'll cross that bridge when I get there ;o).

I found a variety of odds and ends, but was really pleased with these old jars that I put some of my vintage aluminum glitter in......

I also found these sweet vintage little girl birthday candles.....they came in a package of 8 and fiver were used (melted head), so the three remainders will go up on display.

I also just completed a Valentine's Day tag swap......here's a sneak peek.  Check out my personal blog, Chloe Rose, to see the finished project.

Going on a Treasure Hunt......

This past weekend, I made it out to an estate sale in Portland.  It was advertised as having a lot of vintage sewing and fabric, which motivated me to get out of the house.   I live about 25 miles outside of the big Rose City, so when I head over to that side of the river, it takes some coordinating to get me out early enough to be there when the sale opens up.  My hubby was at the beach doing some clam digging, so it was just me and the boys for the weekend.  I dropped them off with Grandpa at 7:00 am, dropped by the ATM for some cash, and headed over to Portland.  The ad said the list would be out at 8:00 am.  I arrived at 7:55 the list already had 25 names on it...... Those 25 people would be getting in the door first when the door opened at 9:00 am.   I was #26.

My reason for going, the vintage sewing supplies, was a big disappointment.  There really wasn't much there.  However, the rest of the house made up for it.  This was a real digger.  I was down on the floor searching through boxes......you just never know what you'll discover!

The first thing I found was a vintage quilt.  It was in pretty good shape with no tears or holes.  There was some wearing along one of the edges and a couple of small spots.  It looked to be from the 40's, it was quite fluffy or thick, as compared to other quilts I've seen.  The stitching was also of good quality.  I did some research on-line on how to clean it....it needed it.  In case you're interested, here's the link to cleaning a vintage quilt.

I also found an old overnight suitcase and lots of decorative glass jars.  I craft a lot and I like to put my supplies in decorative jars, so they can look nice and I can see what I have.

I also found a box of vintage crafting supplies.....chenille pipe cleaners, glitter, flag stickers, star stickers, and bits and baubles.

While digging in one of the boxes, I found this set of vintage chenille chickens.  Just in time for Easter, I found a rooster, hen, and three little chicks.  I thought they were so sweet and they're really soft.

One of my favorite things I found, in a broken picture frame, was this precious photo of a little girl sitting on Santa's lap.  It is in the original cardboard sleeve that says "Christmas 1945".  What a little cutie!  I will be using this in my Christmas crafts next year.

Have a Wonderful Day!

Girls Day Out.....or How to Recover From Snow Induced Cabin Fever

Today, Julie and I got out to do some estate sale and antique mall shopping.  After the holidays and a horrendous snow storm that trapped me in my house for five days, we were ready to get out and have some fun.

We began our day with a Vanilla Latte and a Caramel Macchiato from Starbucks.  Gotta have our coffees!

Our first stop of the day was an estate sale in Portland.  This was the last day of a huge sale, which meant everything was 1/2 off.  Here's some of the goodies that I found.......

The mini mannequin will get a new cottage style paint job.  The glass salt & pepper shakers will be filled with glitter and the cheese grater will find a home on my dad's pot rack.  My favorite finds of the day were the vintage mini rick rack and some victorian reproduction cards from the late 70's.  These will be fun to use in my paper crafts.

We also found some fun vintage beaded rings.  There was a basket filled with them. I remember my mom having one of these when I was  a kid in the 70's.  They are made from plastic beads and sit up high on your finger.  They made me chuckle, will all of their wild colors......I wish I gotten a picture of all of them.  These were a hoot!
I told Julie, we have to get one of them.......so she picked an orange one to match her pretty wool coat and I picked a red and white one.  It'll be my junkin' ring.

Julie had told me about about an antique store in Portland, called Monticello Antiques.  She has been there a number of times, but I've never been there.  It was fun to walk through and look at all of the treasures on display.

We ate lunch at the little cafe located at the store, called Montis.  Julie had a ham & cheese pannini and I had their chicken curry pannini.  They tasted good and were welcomed by our grumbling tummies......We were hungry shoppers!

We also met Sue from Bella Shabby.  I have visited her blog several times, so it was nice to meet her in person.  She was very nice and had a pretty cottage style spot at the shop.

While shopping, I found some cute vintage initial appliques.....one C for Christa and one J for Julie.  I'm not sure what I'll use them on yet........I was thinking about incorporating them into name tags for our spring show or perhaps putting them on a change purse for each of us.  I also found some german glass glitter in silver and pink......  Last, but not least, as I was checking out I saw a pail of yard sticks that had Monticello Antiques on them.  They were only a $1, so I thought I would get one to hang up in my craft room......an inexpensive way to remember a fun day!

Have a Wonderful New Year!
